The piece is based on the rocks she would collect and keep in her pockets to rediscover. It is part of a series of stone inspired works that reflect on a meditative feeling while being by the sea. The work combines clays through the block before Lindenberg carves and explores the texture of rocks, staring into rock pools and aesthetics of wet and dry.

Handcrafted by Lindenberg, she skilfully uses her intuition to layer each individual form, alternating between subconscious and conscious design and material decisions. The rock like forms evolved through experimentation with mixing materials and utilising her carving capabilities. This piece is exquisitely tactile, with a rough surface and glazed interior and exterior. It holds very interesting organic forms across the body, emphasising Lindenberg’s unique making processes.

About the Artist

Annette Lindenberg is a German/British ceramicist, originally from Austria, whose work focuses on Kurinuki, the Japanese method of hollowing and carving blocks of clay.
