Description
This figure is striking for its smooth, deep colour, which appears almost velvety in its richness. While no bodily characteristics are depicted, the evenness of the wood allows the natural wood grain pattern to shine through.
Hideo Sawada’s beautifully hand carved figures are a matchless example of a modern application of traditional techniques, balancing the abstract with gentle suggestions of emotion and human form.
