Description
This tall, imposing figure looms large – while the small head bears no obvious characteristics, it feels as if it has a penetrating stare. It is clothed in what appears to be a billowing cape, which serves to further obfuscate the figure’s form.
Hideo Sawada’s beautifully hand carved figures are a matchless example of a modern application of traditional techniques, balancing the abstract with gentle suggestions of emotion and human form.
