CONNIE AUGOUSTINOS

CONNIE AUGOUSTINOS

Connie Augoustinos (b.1990) is an emerging artist and maker from Australia. She undertook a Bachelor of Visual Art, specialising in Ceramics at University of South Australia, then went on to complete the associate training programme at JamFactory, Adelaide where her working studio now resides. Connie has exhibited nationally and internationally and has had her works collected by the Art Gallery of South Australia, Shepparton Art Museum, Victoria as well as residing in many private collections.

Augoustinos creates ceramic sculptural vessels reminiscent of neolithic artefacts. With an intuitive making process, her work considers her cultural heritage, the history of craft, as well as the natural world. Predominantly using coil hand-building and pinching techniques, Augoustinos plays with scale and surface. The slow process of hand-making is reflected in the finished work - each piece is unique, imbued with patience and meaning.

“I want to evoke a sense of ‘otherworldliness’ and curiosity in my vessels. Investigating qualities of scale, form and surface are an integral part of my creative process. Larger one-off pieces give me the freedom to create uninhibitedly, whilst smaller series of multiples are great rhythmic exercises.” - Connie Augoustinos
