Maria de Haan

Maria de Haan is a highly acclaimed London based ceramicist, we are more than privileged to be showcasing Maria’s new collection.

Smoke Fired Pots

Maria's smoked fired pots are hand thrown with a smooth white clay and fired with natural ingredients. Before firing, salts are added, and the pots are placed in metal bins, with smoked saw dust.

The effect of the unpredictable essence of the fire and smoke is evident in the uniqueness of each individual finished pot.

Maria explains, “These new pieces are smoke fired in the Kent countryside where I grew up. The idea that you can use fire to decorate a pot is absolutely fascinating to me, and so different from my early times of glazing by hand and electric firing which is very controlled and predictable.”

All pieces are sealed and water tight.

Vessels

Maria’s latest work sees a move towards the vessel and evokes a sense of stillness and serenity of form.

A distinctive textured hand thrown vessel, unglazed stoneware clay, with oxides. Minimal decoration, and a subtle surface finish.

White Vessel and Bowl

These fine, elegant vessels and bowls are wheel thrown in stoneware with a white glaze.
