ASAHO KAMIYA

ASAHO KAMIYA

Based in Toyama, Japanese artist Asaho Kamiya allows time, touch and memory to guide her hands.

Kamiya is known for her intricately detailed tea bowls, sake cups, and vessels. Natural clay tones form the foundation of her work, imbuing warmth of earth and fire. Onto these surfaces she draws delicate illustrations: fish drifting through water, plants and flowers, soft patterns that sometimes dissolve into abstraction. The images seem to surface slowly, as if remembered rather than invented.

Her colour palette is inspired by nature and memory, while the texture and character of the clay shapes the final form of each work. For Kamiya, her practice focuses on a union between form and image, bringing a modern sensitivity to traditional craft.

Her ceramics are made to be lived with. Tea bowls invite the warmth of matcha, sake cups rest naturally in the hand, and each piece carries a calm presence into daily rituals, where use completes the form.

Kamiya holds an MFA in crafts from Kanazawa College of Art and has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions across Japan.
