About the Artist

Akari Karugane is a ceramic artist based in Tajimi City, a region renowned for its Mino ware tradition. A graduate of Musashino Art University and the Tajimi City Ceramics Design Institute, Karugane creates expressive forms that convey the warmth and strength of clay. Her work draws from natural textures and ancient objects, embracing the organic shifts that occur during the firing process. With a nuanced approach that merges hand-building, wheel-throwing, and mould-making, her vessels and sculptural pieces embody a timeless aesthetic shaped by imperfection and transformation.
