Dora Good Black Moon 44

£840.00

Handmade in Majorca.

Dimensions: ø 25cm x H 29cm

Materials: stoneware

Method:

Dora Good is self taught and she creates the initial shape by hand on a wheel. She converted an electric kiln into a gas kiln and experiments with firing techniques, firing the vessel at a prolonged low temperature allowing the particles within the stoneware clay to melt creating the dark intriguing speckled glow on the piece. The glaze is then added, made of a chalk mix, a recipe that has been passed down from her ceramicist grandmother.

Description:

This Black Moon vessel displays the beauty amidst the night. The characterful rim compliments the reflective glazing drawing depth and dimension whilst enhancing the space. The spectacular organic textures and crudely refined line and form echoes Good's incentive, to create an object of imperfect perfection by transforming the earth into a piece of beauty to outlive its creator. Her one of a kind pieces echo nature in their imperfection; humble and beautiful.

About the Artist:

Dora Alzamora Good is part of the Alzamora and Good family matriarchal trio, living and working in Majorca. She is a third generation practitioner of ceramics.

Her ceramics are intended to express the balance of time and nature. Through a spontaneous artistic process which is both conscious and subconscious, Dora creates objects which aim to provoke an emotional reaction through their shape, form, texture, and colour.
