Description
The fluid, irregular curves and organic variations in Eihi’s forms are derived from nature, while their soot-like textures and eroded surfaces draw inspiration from antiquities. The piece’s soft shaping reflects Eihi’s origin with clay, reminiscent of her time spent experimenting with the material as a child.
Eihi’s Raku works are dainty and playful in their finish, complete with flecks of yellows, blues and browns. They naturally develop fine cracks during the firing process, resulting in both minute and dramatic veins in the clay throughout the piece. Whilst secured by their glaze, their presence asserts the works a sense of story and invaluableness.
Evident in their understated yet orderly forms, these pieces are shaped through the tatara method, which is a style of slab building. Eihi’s Raku pieces are a marvel to explore, all varying drastically in size with entirely unique finishes, inviting viewer exploration and discovery. Eihi says, “I hope my vessels and forms serve as an invitation for people to pause.”
