Description

This black stoneware box by Youyou Wang is created with a soft, balanced silhouette and a lightly textured, stone-like surface. The warmth of the dark clay body contrasts beautifully with a soft matt exterior finished in 100% silver lustre.  A dark rim surrounds the widest point of the body, where this orb like form opens.

The subtle silver surface gently catches the light, creating a refined dialogue between texture, tone, and material. A piece that is both sculptural and functional in perfect balance.

About the Artist 

Youyou Wang is an emerging ceramic artist who has recently graduated from Ceramic Design at Central Saint Martins. Wang creates unique, handmade works with a signature blend of form and function. In her hands, these vessels transcend their utilitarian roots, becoming works of art to be savoured and admired. Wang’s teapots, coated in soft whites, sandy browns and deep blacks, stand as eloquent examples of less being more.

In Wang’s works, simplicity and serenity are the keys to beauty, and her work exemplifies this philosophy, offering an impression of a world where art and functionality seamlessly intertwine.  As an emerging artist, her exploration of form is an exciting journey, and it is clear that she has already established a unique and captivating aesthetic.
