Special Collection: 海の日 Umi no Hi
海の日 Umi no Hi
Maud & Mabel is delighted to share a special collection put together in honour of Umi no Hi.
The Japanese national holiday gives thanks to the oceans bounty and considers the importance of the ocean to Japan as an island nation.
Also referred to as Ocean Day or Sea Day, Marine Day (Umi no Hi) has been an official national holiday in Japan since 1996. Previously known as Marine Memorial Day, it was established in 1941 to mark the anniversary of the 1876 return of the Meiji Emperor to the Port of Yokohama from a tour of the Tohoku and Hokkaido regions, and to express gratitude for the gifts of the sea, honour its importance and pray for the prosperity of Japan as a maritime nation.
To celebrate this beautiful holiday we have put together a special collection of work inspired by the ocean.
Oceana seeks to make our oceans more biodiverse and abundant by winning policy victories in the countries that govern much of the world's marine life. Founded in 2001, it is the largest international advocacy organisation focusing solely on ocean conservation.
Changing policies and regulations, Oceana works to make lasting change.
