LOUIS VINCENT
Louis Vincent is a contemporary maker based in Hampshire, UK. He received his degree in Surface Design from London College of Communication, University of the Arts London in 2013, and has recently shown across several galleries in the UK and France. His practice endlessly explores the sculptural potential of natural materials, experimenting with native hardwoods, recycled paper, plant-based lacquer, and foraged clay. In using such materials, Louis elegantly creates vessels that are representative and innately respectful of the natural world.
Creating works that are materially connected to the landscapes from which they emerge is central to his practice. He creates richly tactile surfaces through a repeated application and removal of lacquer and clay, allowing patterns and textures to develop organically. Final surfaces evoke the patina of weathered stone, oxidation, and invite viewers to consider the gradual transformation of natural landscapes.
Louis says: “The image is not imposed upon the surface, but emerges through the materiality of accumulation, erosion and chance, echoing the ways in which nature continually shapes its surfaces over time.”
