Description
Working with tonal variations created through the application of locally gathered pigments from Hönö, Emelie Abrahamsson employs the ancient technique of egg tempera to colour her vessels. Unlike traditional glazing, this process preserves the immediacy of the clay’s natural surface, allowing subtle shifts in tone and texture to emerge. The resulting finish carries a remarkable softness and depth, its muted hues responding gently to changing light while maintaining a quiet connection to the landscape from which they originate.
Perfectly balanced in form, this vessel rises from a delicate, narrow foot before expanding outward into a generous, rounded body. The volume reaches its fullest expression only briefly, folding back into itself with quiet confidence toward a restrained opening at the crown. A soft, deliberate indentation interrupts the symmetry, introducing a subtle wave like movement that animates the form without disturbing its composure.
Both sculptural and functional, the vessel embodies Abrahamsson’s distinctive language: refined yet deeply tactile, contemporary yet rooted in ancient processes. Its presence is one of stillness and restraint, inviting close observation as light travels across its surface, revealing the nuanced tonal variations and the living character of the clay beneath.
