Description
With a dry matt surface finish, this cup is made from sustainably sourced cedar, with hand-carved, irregular, facets that create a an organic external grip. Resting on a small foot, the surface shows natural tones moving from sooty blacks, to warm creamy browns, accented by sporadic applications of iron oxide.
About the Artist
Glenn Dane works in Cambridgeshire, creating vessels and sculptural forms from locally and sustainably sourced wood. Using freshly cut green timber, he allows natural movement and distortion to shape each piece, preserving knots, fissures and grain as traces of growth. Cracks are stitched as acts of care, and surfaces are finished with hand-made dyes and pigments from foraged plants, seeds and earth. The works exist as abstract, three-dimensional landscapes that reimagine the countryside through form and colour.
