GLENN DANE

GLENN DANE

Glenn Dane works from his garden studio in Cambridgeshire, where he creates vessels and sculptural forms from locally and sustainably sourced wood. His practice takes shape through an instinctive collaboration with the material, letting each piece of timber guide the final form.

Working exclusively with freshly cut green wood gathered from the surrounding landscape, Dane embraces the natural process of drying. As the wood settles, it twists and curves unpredictably, producing subtle distortions that are integral to the work. Knots, fissures and variations in grain are preserved as records of growth and time, while cracks are carefully stitched, acts of repair that acknowledge fragility and honour imperfection.

Surfaces are enriched with handmade dyes and pigments derived from foraged plants, seeds and earth. The resulting works exist as abstract, three-dimensional landscapes formed through local materials. With material, texture and tone, Dane translates the countryside into expressive forms that reimagine timber as contemplative topographies of colour and structure.
