Description

Made from locally sourced oak, this bowl rests on a small, understated foot, allowing the form to feel both grounded and elevated. The rounded profile opens gently from the centre, where the wood growth rings radiate outward in subtle lines, tracing the tree’s passage of time. Finished with a combination of tea, iron, and linseed oil, the surface settles into a deep, dark brown with a dry, matte quality that enhances the oak’s natural grain. A fine crack in the wood has been carefully mended with four visible stitches; an intentional, hand-worked intervention that acknowledges both vulnerability and repair. This gesture serves as a marker of the artist’s presence, honouring imperfection as an integral part of the vessel’s character and history.

About the Artist

Glenn Dane works in Cambridgeshire, creating vessels and sculptural forms from locally and sustainably sourced wood. Using freshly cut green timber, he allows natural movement and distortion to shape each piece, preserving knots, fissures and grain as traces of growth. Cracks are stitched as acts of care, and surfaces are finished with hand-made dyes and pigments from foraged plants, seeds and earth. The works exist as abstract, three-dimensional landscapes that reimagine the countryside through form and colour.
