Description

Hand-carved from local cherry, this round plate features a textured surface marked by thick, crossed brushstrokes of tea, iron, and dye mixed with sand. A small crack in the wood is mended with an X-shaped stitch, a subtle trace of the artist’s hand and care. With both painterly and sculptural qualities, the piece can be exhibited on a wall or placed on a surface.

About the Artist

Glenn Dane works in Cambridgeshire, creating vessels and sculptural forms from locally and sustainably sourced wood. Using freshly cut green timber, he allows natural movement and distortion to shape each piece, preserving knots, fissures and grain as traces of growth. Cracks are stitched as acts of care, and surfaces are finished with hand-made dyes and pigments from foraged plants, seeds and earth. The works exist as abstract, three-dimensional landscapes that reimagine the countryside through form and colour.
