Description
With deeply considered proportions, elegantly glazed interiors and harsher clay exteriors, Kenji Omori’s pieces communicate his past in design and his integrity as a ceramicist. He sculpts refined and thoughtful pieces, leaving the exterior clay in its raw form to observe the way it may change in its surroundings, allowing his works to develop their own patina and character over time.
Whilst simple in palette, often using black and red clay, with polished finishes, Omori explores a depth to the simplicity of his practice. He understands the tactile nature of clay and honours the technicality of sculptural form, allowing him to introduce traditional craft into contemporary spaces.
Omori’s pieces embody intentionality in their carefully controlled contours, gentle interior glazes, and external tonal markings. His works portray an attentiveness to form and presence, and explore ideas of rawness and refinement.
