About the Artist
Having spent so much time in the art world, studying, dealing and exhibiting work, Richard draws inspiration for his painting and drawing from a wide and comprehensive knowledge of art and objects. Late Rembrandts, Titian, Velasquez, Giacometti and Frank Auerbach have been of notable inspiration to Richard. Particularly interested in the ‘visceral’ physicality of Rembrandt and Velasquez, Richard seeks to create work that contains its own intrinsic value.
Richard creates intimate portraits and figurative paintings, rich in texture and tone. Having specialised in painting at art college, Richard Philp went on to become a successful art dealer and exhibitor, only recently, coming back to creating his on work again after 50 years.
