Maud & Mabel are delighted to announce their latest showcase, 'Return to Form', the highly anticipated solo exhibition by renowned ceramicist Stuart Carey. After a seven-year hiatus, Carey makes a triumphant return to exhibiting with a collection that demonstrates Carey's artistic revival and the evolution of his craft over the past decade.

Born in Newcastle and currently based in London, Carey nurtured his love for clay from an early age and proceeded to obtain a BA and MA from the Glasgow School of Art and the Royal College of Art, respectively. Carey's talent was quickly recognised, earning him two Designer of the Year awards and leading to collaborations with prestigious clients such as Conran, John Lewis, Calvin Klein, and Gwyneth Paltrow's 'Goop.'
'Return to Form' features meticulously thrown vessels made from white stoneware and porcelain, drawing inspiration from human silhouettes, gestures, and expressions. Influenced by Gwyn Hanssen-Pigott's notion of 'rightness of form', Carey's work masterfully explores the relationship between form, function, and feeling. Each piece is a unique blend of perfection and flaw and the careful consideration of forms and tones allows the pieces to complement one another, creating groupings that form tribes or families. Each combination offers new balance, relationships, and considerations, reflecting the complexity and beauty of human connections.
'Return to Form' celebrates creativity, resilience, and the transformative power of art as Carey returns to the forefront of contemporary ceramics.
