Description

A delicately made sake vessel by artist Celia Dowson. Influenced by the movement in nature, her work reflects the colours, changing light and mystery of the natural world. The captivating process of casting glass allows Celia to create precious pieces of work, that go beyond functional. Fascinated by industrial processes Celia adapts traditional modelling and casting techniques to make bespoke pieces to use and display. Techniques used in both the making of glass and ceramics are crossed and reapplied so that unique forms and surface finishes are achieved.

The translucency of the ocean blue, matte glass adds a sensitive and delicate touch of colour to a room, as well as creating a beautiful drinking experience.

About the Artist

Celia Dowson is an artist whose ceramics and cast glass objects go far beyond their functional use. Celia graduated with a BA in Ceramic Design from Central Saint Martins in 2014, before receiving her MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art in 2018. Her work is currently on display in the permanent collection of the V&A.

Celia works with the different properties of glass and porcelain to evoke the movement of nature in different ways. Through marks and gestures, her porcelain vessels represent evolving landscapes, mountainscapes and seascapes. Her glass pieces vary in thickness, causing subtle gradations in colour. This reflects the colours, changing light and mystery of the natural world.
