Description:

This striking altar piece by Pacha Designs demonstrates the power of a simple material uplifted to its full potential. The naturally shaped English oak has been burnt and charred, giving it its beautiful rich dark colour, highlighting the grain and texture of the wood and the organic undulation of the woods edge. The feet’s circle and square design counterbalance each other, and seem to lead to a meeting of the ancient and the modern that underpin this piece’s ingenuity.

This serving board balances the line between the sculptural and the functional and is a perfect setting for the ritual of tea drinking and as a centrepiece of its own right.

About the Artist:

Glenn Rushbrooke and Samantha Robb are a design/make partnership based on the North Devon/North Cornwall Coast, creating furniture, objects and interiors for considered spaces. Their work evolves from a simplistic approach to design and the materials that they use, combining pared down aesthetics with the Japanese view of wabi sabi, beauty in imperfection.

Glenn and Samantha carefully hand select their materials from locally sourced reclaimed and sustainable resources. They love the natural rawness of oak, stone and metal and use these elements to produce work that incorporates clean lines, abstract shapes and a modern aesthetic. By using reclaimed and sustainable “real” materials, no two pieces will ever be the same - some pieces having subtle differences, others being completely unique. Created with mindfulness and intention, all work is designed and made by Glenn and Samantha in their self renovated workshop & studio at Koa Tree Studios in Welcombe on the North Devon/North Cornwall border.
