Description
Saeam Kwon’s work reflects a deep respect for process, material, and restraint. Focused on creating fine stoneware, their work combines minimalist sillhouettes with traditional sensibilities, using dark, textured, clay contrasted by delicate details and lightness. Each work possesses a dainty form, with considered sculpting and meticulous shaping.
Their use of dark clay juxtaposes the lightness of the pieces, and plays with motions of shadow and light. Deep charcoal is complimented by lighter highlights, while softer stone-like pieces gain depth through shading details on the clay’s edge. Proportion and weightlessness is given significant attention, with each piece harnessing a true sense of joy and skill in sculpting, shaping, and transforming otherwise simple tableware.
Through thoughtful pieces, technical craftsmanship, and a refined elegance, Saeam seeks to bring the act of tea drinking closer to everyday life.
