Description

A larger sized, tactile vessel hand-built using pinch and coil techniques. The process of creating such vessels is physical, requiring the artist to use their whole body to form its structure. Harrison's focus is on functional ceramics that embrace the slow and imperfect process of hand-building. She showcases the physicality of hand-built ceramics with haptic marks and traces of touch. The vessel is made from Golden ochre stoneware complemented by soft markings and a washy satin glaze.

Tor Harrison is a contemporary ceramicist based in Berlin. Her work traverses themes of connection, intimacy, and mystery. Embracing the slow and imperfect creation process, Harrison showcases the physicality of hand-built ceramics with haptic marks and traces of touch. Her practice establishes a deep connection with the ancient living material, using every part of her hand to shape the clay. Pinching, coiling, and slab techniques all form part of Harrison’s practice as she produces minimalist, organic forms that resonate with the energy of the artist and her natural materials.
