‘Material & Method’ celebrates the artistry of process, the ways in which artists across disciplines commit themselves to a method, exploring its traditions, limits, and expressive possibilities. Whether through the carved voids of kurinuki, the unpredictability of soda firing, the monumental building technique of onggi, or the slow layering of washi paper, each artist represented has chosen to explore technique.
These works remind us that making is never just about the finished object. Each coil, fold, stitch, and press carry with it an accumulation of gestures, time, and embodied knowledge. The focus on process foregrounds the tempo of working hands, the persistence of repetition, and the intimacy of material engagement.

By placing side by side techniques as diverse as ceramic firing, vessel building, and papermaking, the exhibition reveals the shared dedication to craft that unites these practices. In their differences we see not only distinct cultural lineages and histories, but also a common search for meaning through making and dedication to craft.
The exhibition highlights technique as both a language and a philosophy, a way of shaping the world through touch, patience, and discipline.

Join us for the opening on Tuesday 12th May, 5pm - 7pm.
