2nd - 18th October

Maud & Mabel is proud to present ‘Traces of Process: The Soul of the Surface’, an international group exhibition running from 2nd to 18th October 2025. This show brings together eight contemporary craft artists working in wood and clay, each exploring the surface as a site of innovation, transformation, and narrative depth.

Representing practices from Japan, Italy, Sweden, and the UK, these artists push the limits of their materials through layering, carving, burning, glazing, and sculpting, turning process into poetry. This is not surface for surface’s sake, it is integral to the character, function, and soul of each piece.

Together, these artists highlight how contemporary makers are rethinking craft, not as a static tradition, but as a living dialogue between hand, material, and idea. Traces of Process invites visitors to slow down and look closely at how surface is formed: through labour, intuition, accident, and innovation.

Join us for the Opening day on Thursday 2nd October at Maud & Mabel’s Hampstead gallery, and experience this tactile, material-rich exhibition first-hand.
